About Rough Odds
Rough Odds began with a simple irritation: casino offers are written to be skimmed, and skimming is exactly how they get expensive. So we built a journal that reads them slowly — by the fire, with a ledger — for Canadian adults who'd rather know the price of a thing before enjoying it.
What we do here
In short: read terms closely, price them honestly, publish the method.
We take the offers from 888, TonyBet and Betty apart condition by condition — multiples, scopes, weightings, windows, caps — and rate them in embers under a method anyone can audit. Licence claims are confirmed in the registries of Gibraltar, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, Alberta's AGLC and Ontario's AGCO before they're printed. Our estimator even converts wagering into evenings, because time is the currency fine print prefers not to mention.
What we refuse to do
Run wagers — we're a journal, not a casino; no bets are placed or taken here. Predict outcomes — luck doesn't grant interviews. Print "risk-free" — nothing on a casino floor is. Or bury the commercial arrangement — it's in the banner on every page, permanently.
How the woodpile is paid for
Referral commissions from 888, TonyBet and Betty: when a reader opens an account through our links, the casino may pay us a fee. The fee never touches the reader's terms and never touches the embers. The full anatomy of the arrangement is on How we earn.
House rules for ourselves
- Primary sources only: registries and published terms, never press releases.
- Every factual page carries its last-verified date and a place in the re-check rotation.
- Errors get corrected in place, quickly — point one out and watch us.
- Safer-play information lives in the body of the journal, never in the margins.
