Habits that keep the hearth warm

• Decide the loss budget before the first log — money already counted as spent.
• Set deposit limits the day the account opens; calm decisions outlast excited ones.
• End sessions by the clock, not by the scoreboard. Wins and losses both lie about time.
• Never chase a loss. Chasing converts one bad evening into two.
• Keep alcohol, low moods and gambling in separate rooms.
• Read every bonus as playtime purchased, never as income promised.

When the smoke changes colour

Spending past the plan, repeatedly. Hiding play from people you'd normally tell. Borrowing to fund it, or letting bills wait behind it. Gambling to fix a mood or to fix the last session.
